A recommended place to view the Red Sea is on the 14th floor of the Dan Eilat Hotel. Eilat is the farthest south city in Israel and is located on the shores of the Red Sea. The Red Sea is also called the Erythraean Sea. It is a seawater inlet of the Indian Ocean. There are many speculations as to why the inlet is called red, but many think it is due to the seasonal blooms of the red-colored erythraeum (algae) near the water's surface which turns the water red part of the year.
